Playing with Simon Says Stamp embossing folders. Focusing on the beautiful floral Field embossing folder.
After watching several YouTube videos especially those by Jennifer Mcguire! I felt inspired to experiment with some embossing folders. The great thing about embossing folders is they are relatively inexpensive and from the videos I had watched the possibilities seem to be endless. So when a couple of the Simon Says Stamp embossing folders came back in stock I just couldn’t resist. I invested in 3 folders although at the moment I have only used 2, I brought the splendid leaves circle frame, the floral field and the filigree snowflakes.
I couldn’t wait to use them. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them but I did know I wanted to add some colour to them using the techniques as I had seen on YouTube. I used some of my distress oxide inks, my glass work surface and a brayer to play around and see what I could come up with. I ended up with several different backgrounds to use and each one looked different even when I used the same selection of colours! It was a lot of fun.
For the first card I used salty ocean, peacock feathers and seedless preserves distress oxide inks, I put a line of each on my glass work surface and then ran the brayer over the colours to blend and pick up the colours. Sadly my brayer struggles to pick up the colour in the middle but I persisted and still got good results. I rolled the brayer over the embossing folder on the side that the background was raised which gave me some colour behind the flowers when i ran it through my die cutting machine. The big hugs die is by Memory Box and comes with a shadow die which helps to make it stand out more, the teal and purple card stocks are pearlised card from Paper Mill Direct and the big hugs is cut from their oyster white prism mirror card which really is the most beautiful card, because its mirror card it picks up all the colours around it. I used some coloured pearl like gems that i have in my stash to finish it off.
For the second card I used the same method but used spun sugar, dried marigold and worn lipstick which seemed to make a really pretty peachy pink colour. The happy die is from Lawn Fawn and is cut from copper mirror card from Paper Mill Direct. I used a sentiment from the MFT Balloon Besties which I added to a small piece of card which I found in my scraps and it matched the colour of the background which helped the background colour pop and also made the sentiment more focal. I finished it with some ivory pearl like gems from my stash.
Both of the word die cuts were cut out 3 times, twice each from white card and then once from the speciality card. I really like this look and find it helps to give the cards more dimension.
This last picture is just to show you how great this embossing folder is even without adding any extra colours. It looks fab when used on plain white or even coloured card.
