Playing with MFT’s Baby Shark Die Set

I’ve had this die set on my wish list for a while now and when I saw that Dies to die had it in their sale I just couldn’t resist! And boy am I glad that I have added this to my stash, what a great set to play with! I started off by die cutting some of the shark pieces in various different colours so I could play around with different colour combinations, the best bit being that there is only 4 separate dies so its prettyT simple to put together. It also meant that I could use up some of my smaller card scraps which is always a win! I used a few different blues and greys for the sharks body and reds and pinks for the inside of their mouths. Some of the card is textured which I really liked as it gave the sharks even more character and definition.

After deciding on the colour combinations for my sharks and piecing them together I set about ink blending some backgrounds. I used a couple of different combinations of blue distress oxides these included tumbled glass, mermaid lagoon, blueprint sketch, salty ocean and broken china. I played around with where the lighter colour would sit, on some its lighter in the centre and it gets darker as it goes out and on others it is darker at the bottom and gets lighter as it goes up towards the top, I also did several different panel sizes to mix it up a little.

I used the MFT Sharky Sentiments stamp set to create the sentiments for my cards. I white heat embossing them on black card to help them stand out. I also stacked them up to give them some dimension.

The slimline card started off as a 3.75 x 8.25 Inches but when I was adding the card base I decided to make it a little wider so that there was a little white showing each side, I tend to do this a lot with slimline cards.

Panel size – 3.75 x 8.25 inches, Final card size 4 x 8.25 inches

I had one last shark and wanted to make it a little different then the first few so created a sand bed by ink blending tattered rose, antique linen and tea dye distress oxide inks, I used a hill die from lawn fawn to cut it out and created some coral and sea grass with my Cricut Maker 3 as I didn’t have any Stamps or dies suitable. I hope you have enjoyed these as much as I have. I think this set has been discontinued now but I would highly recommend investing in it if you can find it anywhere, its a really great set.
