I needed to make some birthday cards one of which was for a 60th birthday. I knew I wanted to use an embossing folder but wasn’t quite clear on an idea so I took to Pinterest for some inspiration. I came across a card made by Michelle Short (thecardgrotto.com) it was so beautiful & I loved the colours so went through my stash, collected some supplies & set about creating something similar. At this point I wasn’t sure if I would go with the same colour scheme but picked out black & teal card, several different embossing folders and gold & copper embossing powders.
After playing around with some different designs & colours, I ended up going with the black panel that was embossed using the Altenew Book Cover Engravings 3D embossing folder. I ran my white pigment ink over the panel which covered the parts of the flowers and leaves that stood out, I then heat set some gold embossing powder over that. I also aded some gold splatters using some gold metallic water paint. The 60 is cut out of gold mirror card using the MFT Impact Numbers dies, it is layered with 2 additional black layers to give it some dimension, I added a sentiment strip under the 60 which was from the Altenew Sentiment Strips 2 stamp set. To finish it off I added some gold gems from Lucy’s Cards. I really love the look of this card.
I had another panel that was embossed using the same embossing folder but this was with a beautiful teal coloured card. This panel is splattered with the same gold metallic paint but instead of using gold embossing powder on the flower I used a blending brush to lightly brush white ink over the raised areas of the image which helps it stand out a little more more. It’s a really beautiful subtle look. I did heat set a Happy Birthday sentiment from the Altenew Wispy Begonia stamp set with gold embossing powder, it’s stacked on another 2 layers of card to give it some dimension. I again finished it off with some gold gems from Lucy’s cards. I still have another 3 panels that I created but haven’t yet turned into cards, I really love this design so plan to do some more similar to add to my card stash. They are fairly simple but super effective.
